Be on the Board of a New & Exciting

Community Organisation

The Werneth Park Music Rooms and Hollinwood Community Centre are looking to attract skilled volunteers to take on Board positions within the proposed management structures of these two buildings.

Each centre will offer community facilities, and a venue for training, conference and social events.

The new Board roles will call upon enthusiastic people with skills in areas such as business management, fund raising, legal, IT, human resources, architecture, surveying, and building management. Training will be provided. Posts are voluntary and will be reviewed on an annual basis.

To find out more about the new organisations or about the new board roles, contact Susan Meadwell, Physical Regeneration Co-ordinator on 0161 911 4160.

SRB6 Staff & Projects

Visited a Venue Near You!

Building on the success of last years’ SRB6 Roadshows, the SRB6 Scheme and its funded projects got back on the road and visited a series of local venues this April.

This year the theme of the Roadshows was slightly different. Its aim was for SRB6 funded projects to actually operate at the roadshow venue. This is opposed to just providing 'information only'.

Projects were available to offer one to one advice; CV writing workshops; give business advice; recruit volunteers; advise on community grants and how to apply; offer benefits advice; training opportunities and much more.

The Roadshows were held at

  • Werneth & Freehold Community Development Project,

  • Limeside Methodist Church

  • Coppice Community Centre

If you were unable to attend the events and have any burning issues, please call the SRB6 Co-ordination Team on 0161 911 5146.

On yer' bike in Hollinwood!

Wheels have been set in motion to consider a proposal to

develop a new BMX/Skate Park in Hollinwood.

This proposal follows a recent youth consultation exercise conducted by Upturn on behalf of the Oldham SRB6 Scheme, and in partnership with Oldham Youth Service. The consultation engaged with young people at a recently organised Youth Day, Schools and the young people in the local area, but most responses were from those not currently using any existing youth provisions.

The results of the survey showed that the vast majority of young people believed there to be a lack of local, good quality, free-of-charge sports facilities in the area. The survey also showed that many young people are currently involved or would like to become more involved in BMX-ing, skateboarding, skating and basketball.

In response to this need, Oldham SRB6 are hoping to build a brand new BMX/Skate Park along with a small basketball provision off Hollins Road on the Old Oak Colliery park land (near the football pitch). The project is still in its proposal stage and has had support from the Hollinwood Community Panel and will be subject to SRB Board Approval, planning permission and further consultation with local residents.

Get involved!

This is a new and exciting project that needs the support of enthusiastic and dedicated young people. Oldham SRB6 really wants young people to partner in designing and developing the park if it gets the 'green light'. If so - you can learn about the processes involved in scheme design, budget management, site preparation, health and safety, and planning an opening event. In fact, many of the aspects involved in delivering an SRB6 funded regeneration scheme.

So, if you want to get involved or find out more, call Susan Meadwell (Oldham SRB6) on 0161 911 4160
