| The project takes over two areas of derelict land and provide the necessary facilities, infrastructure and services to turn them into a community garden. The facility will include installing storage sheds, polytunnels – in which to grow plants - and even a classroom so that local children can learn to grow their own food. Dave Gibbings, one of the project co-founders comments: “We want to engage with local residents at all levels, we are even negotiating to get energy efficient wind turbines to help local residents reduce their power bills as well as giving young people the chance to learn about healthy eating and the fun of growing their own food.”
Interested local residents can find out more, and more importantly sign up to get involved, by contacting Julie Keller at Hollinwood House, Blackthorn Road, Hollinwood. Telephone 0161 284 3563. |
