    Lifelong Learning

 

The focus of this theme is on improving skill levels to increase local people's ability to gain access to jobs locally and in the wider labour market.

SRB6 are engaged in a number of projects which are designed to encourage local people to participate in learning, especially those that face the biggest barriers to participation.

Current Projects

 

 

Positive Action Training (PAT)

An Upturn project that creates waged job opportunities for long-term unemployed people and equips them with the work-based skills and experience, accredited qualifications, confidence and self-belief necessary to secure permanent employment.

Highways to Opportunities

Provides information on job vacancies, support for job seekers, training,

volunteering and benefit advice, to residents

Careers Guidance Plus

Provides career guidance and learning opportunities to enhance career and life prospects.

ICT Link with Job Centre Plus

The project will establish a dedicated ICT link based at St Chad’s Centre. Residents will be able to access this service with support from H2O five days per week.

Learning in a Vocational Environment (LIVE)

Provides in-depth supported learning to learners with a range of needs to support them through accredited qualifications and into Further Education, Employment and Modern Apprenticeships.

Raising Attendance and Attainment

A project to raise the attainment at GCSE of pupils particularly those who attend Kaskenmoor School by improving levels of attendance at the school.

Underemployed Asian Research

This project seeks funding to carry out a survey of 30 people out of a known group of  70 to check their employment status 12 months on. This work will inform future working practices with this client group.

Past Projects

 

 

Enhanced New Deal ILMs

Contribution to a wider project that gives New Deal trainees on voluntary sector and environmental task force options a years work experience and training on minimum wage rather than benefits plus. Project has been re-approved after a successful first year.

 

Family Learning

Parents and children learning together, with parents able to access a range of activities, mainly at NVQ level 1.

 

ICT On The Loose

Project provides laptops and tutor to deliver ICT training to SRB6 residents. Project now running from a number of venues and linking in with R2E and Family Learning projects. opportunities in the community and other venues.

 

Learning Projects Manager

SRB6 funded post to ensure co-ordination between SRB6-funded education/training projects and mainstream provision. Postholder manages school based projects and co-ordinate Raising Educational Achievement and Lifelong Learning Theme Groups.

 

Primary Learning Mentors

One additional member of staff each for Limeside, St Margaret’s and Freehold schools, working on an intensive one-to-one basis with a small number of children (and their families) who are already showing signs of disruptive behaviour and disaffection). This was a successful one year pilot which has now been extended until June 2004.
