Understanding and supporting the employment aims of Werneth residents. In 2005, Oldham’s Race Equality Partnership identified that there were a significant number of Asian males under-employed in the Werneth area. The research identified that “... the vast bulk of Asian males are employed in either taxi driving, takeaways, as market traders, as unskilled or semi-skilled workers for Park Cakes or labourers in private industry.” This project will conduct research on a sample of a known group of 70 previous research participants to ascertain their employment status twelve months on. Each participant will complete a questionnaire to: - Establish their existing situation
- Establish their aims and aspirations
- Establish what help/assistance can be provided to achieve these aims
The results will be compared to information gained twelve months previously, to record changes in their situation. While completing the questionnaire the participants will be given advice on achieving their aims. Where appropriate, an appointment will be made for the person to access an Information and Advice session with a Careers Advisor. A small working group of H2O and OREP staff will work together to produce a report. This report will be made available to other partner organisation in Oldham. The report will highlight: - The present situation
- What additional advice has been provided to the beneficiaries
- What SRB6 residents’ aims are
- Suggest what future actions can be taken to help them achieve these aims
